Intentional
Servanthood from Pastor Jim
Scripture is implicit that we are a family. The
spiritual significance of family is foundational in the OT scriptures
and metaphors for family infiltrate the pages of the New Testament as
well.
From a human
standpoint, I grew up in a family of six, and have, by God's grace,
assembled a family of six all my own. It's been gratifying to watch
each of my children grow and mature into responsible young
adults. Their developing maturity has made for a joyous and
cohesive, though admittedly imperfect, family experience.
The success,
health and vitality of any family - biological or spiritual - is
determined, to a great extent, by the contribution of the family
members. When family members are committed to discovering and
investing their God given talents and abilities for the good of the
overall family, 'family' is a beautiful and impactful entity!
In Ephesians 4, Paul
teaches that one of the primary tasks of Key Leaders in the church is
to 'equip the saints' for the work of the ministry. The Greek
word katartismos, here translated equipping, can also be
translated 'perfecting'. In ancient times, this word was used
to describe the setting of a broken bone. In other words, its
use references an intentional, perfecting process; re-placing the
bone as it was originally meant to be. Based on God's original
creation of you, what type of contribution did He prepare you to have
in His church? I would say, of all the things we prioritize on
earth, answering this question well should be near or at the top of
the list.
This fall, we will be unveiling a new, foundational
program at MBC called 'Intentional Servanthood' (IS).
The primary purpose of this extensive new effort is to help existing
and future members of our church family realize how, specifically,
they have been wired for optimum impact in Christ's church. I'm
truly excited to see how the Lord will use this groundbreaking new
program to spur our church family on to even greater love and good
deeds in the Payson community for months and years to come.

Wake Up Call For God's People with Anne Graham
Lotz and Joel Rosenberg
|
Event
Dates: Sunday, September 11, 2011
|
Watch as a church
fellowship, community group, or on your home computer. This evening
of teaching messages by Anne Graham Lotz
and Joel Rosenberg, knit together with
authentic worship music led by Selah, we pray,
will be used by God to wake up His people. Join us as we consider the
times in which we live, refocus on Jesus as our Hope for the future,
and ask God to re-ignite such an intense longing for His return that
we live the rest of our lives with no regrets.

Summer
is here, we are burning up and
praying for rain. Do any of you remember when Terry Cadwell
started? We were in a drought and asked him to pray for
rain. He had never prayed that specific prayer he said, but he
would do as we all asked. Terry prayed in both services asking
for moisture. The next Saturday night it snowed so much we had to
cancel the church service.
Isn't
God amazing and faithful? We might need to repeat our prayers -
it is pretty dry out there. I have some updates for you on IRS
"stuff" but will save that boring report for next
month. Happy summer, hope you are all doing something fun.
Stay in the word, stay safe and see you next month.
Your
friend,
Penny

Some Camping Tips
from Jana
-
When
using a public campground, a tuba placed on your picnic table
will keep the campsites on either side vacant.
·
Get
even with a bear who raided your food bag by kicking his favorite
stump apart and eating all the ants.
·
Old
socks can be made into high fiber beef jerky by smoking them over an
open fire.
·
While
the Swiss Army Knife has been popular for years, the Swiss Navy Knife
has remained largely unheard of. Its single blade functions as a tiny
canoe paddle.
·
When
camping, always wear a long-sleeved shirt. It gives you something to
wipe your nose on.
·
You
can compress the diameter of your rolled up sleeping bag by running
over it with your car.
·
Take
this simple test to see if you qualify for solo camping. Shine a
flashlight into one ear. If the beam shines out the other ear, do not
go into the woods alone.
·
A
two-man pup tent does not include two men or a pup.
·
A
potato baked in the coals for one hour makes an excellent side dish.
A potato baked in the coals for three hours makes an excellent hockey
puck.
·
The
guitar of the noisy teenager at the next campsite makes excellent
kindling.
·
Check
the washing instructions before purchasing any apparel to be worn camping.
Buy only those that read "Beat on a rock in stream."
·
The
sight of a bald eagle has thrilled campers for generations. The sight
of a bald man, however, does absolutely nothing for the eagle.
·
It's
entirely possible to spend your whole vacation on a winding mountain
road behind a large motor home.
·
Bear
bells provide an element of safety for hikers in grizzly country. The
tricky part is getting them on the bears.
In an emergency, a drawstring
from a parka hood can be used to strangle a snoring tent mate.

Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend, sorry I
didn't get pictures from you all who were at family camp,
because I am actually in Colorado at a wonderful place called Camp
Elim. Pray for me and my voice to hold up this week as I have
the opportunity to share God's Word with 160+ junior high students.
