Jovial Jokes from Jana
|
|
|
The Sunday School teacher was describing how Lot's
wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt, when little
Jason interrupted, 'My Mommy looked back once while she was
driving,' he announced triumphantly, 'and she turned into a
telephone pole!'
Nine-year-old Joey was asked by his mother what he had learned in
Sunday School. 'Well Mom, our teacher told us how God sent
Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the
Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the Red Sea, he had
his army build a pontoon bridge and the people walked across
safely. Then he radioed headquarters for
reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and
all the Israelites were saved.' 'Now, Joey, is that
really what your teacher taught you?' his mother asked.
'Well, no, Mom. But if I told it the way the teacher did,
you'd never believe it!'

Pray for Mission Mexico Trip
March 15-21
|
|
|
2 Tim. 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and
of love, and of a sound mind.
We have sought to carefully plan the trip to make
it a wonderful and safe experience.
We will be traveling during the day through a
small town crossing, staying together with 12 adults in a single
house in a small town.
We will be ministrying to the hurting, the abused,
the little ones of abused, the cast out, the unlovely and the
poorest of the poor who are close to the heart of God.
And we would appreciate your prayers as we
minister at Casa del Pastor, Raul's house, migrant workers camp,
Mobility Angels and Gabriel House.

Thanks for "hunting" for

A Note from Larry
As we
enter into March, we turn the corner in our "Loving
Jesus" series in Colossians from the "doctrinal"
to the "practical". What that means is that in
Colossians 1-2, Paul has been establishing that Jesus is enough -
that His death for us and His life in us is enough for all we
need in life and all we need to live a victorious Christian Life.
In Colossians 3-4, Paul will be spelling out in detail what the
"Christ in me" life looks like in daily practical
circumstances and relationships.

A Note from our Elders
Hey,
this is Scott Nossek writing for the Elders this month.
Thank you, Joel, for putting this e-newsletter together, and
providing us another means with which to communicate. For
those I haven't met yet, my family and I have been attending MB
since 1993. I am currently the newest member of the board.
However, I previously served as a deacon for 3 years, followed by
6 years as an elder. It is truly a humbling privilege to
serve again, and I am excited for the future of Mountain Bible.
I thought I would share a little about just what we do every
week... I have heard some say that meeting weekly is too much,
and causes micro-management issues. When you hear what we
do each morning, I think you would agree with me that once a week
is probably the minimum we should meet. First, breakfast is
brought up fresh from the Biltmore in Phoenix, followed by
cigars...yeah, I'm sure you bought that!
Actually, we start with a devotional from the Word, with each
elder taking his turn to lead. We then go over the prayer
list from Sunday's requests, and add to that list requests and
concerns brought to each elder during the week. The list
can get long. On our knees, we take each concern to the
Lord in prayer. Lastly, we attend to items on an agenda
that need elder input. Often, we don't have time to cover
each item. We close each meeting, hand in hand, with
prayer.
I wanted to share the meeting with you for several reasons:
1. We desperately want to communicate
clearly to the staff and congregation how God is leading us as a
group of spiritual leaders. But we are men, and
unfortunately I have experienced too often our difficulty to do
just that, communicate clearly, despite our best intentions.
2. We take very seriously our charge to
cover the congregation in prayer, and we covet yours for us.
3. We need to hear from you. We
desire to hear your suggestions, needs, prayer requests, and if
there is confusion or questions about decisions that have been
made. We are men without personal agendas, or hunger for power,
who want to follow Jesus' example of servant leadership.
Thanks for reading, and I hope everyone gets a chance to
personally thank Jeremy for his selfless leadership in worship
for the past 3 years. And thank you Larry for your powerful
reminder Sunday that JESUS IS ENOUGH!
Your brother in Christ,
Scott

goodness a new directory is
coming!

MBC Directory
MBC
Directory Pictures have been a huge success! They have
turned out GREAT! Thank you so much for your incredible
participation! I know it was frustrating to wait for your
photo session, and there was some struggle with the photographers
rushing, but it will be worth it! (Wasn't it Trevor?)
The Directory is going to be a great asset, and I just wanted to
thank all of you for amazing patience! Also, if you missed
the photo ops, please see me on the patio on Sunday, March 8th,
and I will take your picture by the tree, or email me a picture
that we can use. jana@mountainbible.org
You all are amazing!!!! Thanks

Children/Family Ministry
MBC
monthly newsletter (Cache) has given us a great way to
communicate with the Body of MBC. I would like to take this
opportunity to introduce you to the faithful teachers in our
Children's Ministry. We will be featuring a different
teacher each month, beginning with Sherrie Myer. She
teaches the Pre-School class in the first service, and is also a
member of the leadership team.
I asked Sherrie to tell us a little about herself, and how she
has been effected by serving.
"We moved to Payson in 1998. Shortly after we moved,
we found Mountain Bible Church. When Matthew was a preschooler
(2002-2003), Rob and I taught the preschool Sunday School class
for one year. I continued as a substitute until I took the
preschool class again a year or two ago.
It has been a great blessing to see Children's Ministry grow over
the years. It's great to see the ministry really trying to
reach kids both on Sundays and during the week. It is
making a great effort to instill the same values and truths the
kids are learning at home.
Personally, I am so blessed to see my preschoolers around town
and see their faces light up when they recognize me. It's
also been fun to watch my old preschoolers grow."
Sherrie has been a true blessing to MBC's children and families,
teaching them of God's love and promises. The love and
patience she shows our preschoolers is surely God at work.
"The effects of what you are doing are so much greater than
what you can comprehend that we can't begin to get our minds
around it. This work touches every dimension of human life,
and has an inexhaustible future." Dallas Willard www.mountainbible.org/children

Women's Ministry
Do you
get the sense that spring is just around the corner?
Hooray! God is so good to bless us with seasons - both in
nature and in our personal lives. I don't know what season
you find yourself in right now, but our upcoming MBC Women's
Spring Conference "Spur One Another On To..." is sure
to have something special that will bless and encourage you in
the midst of your "season". The Conference date
is March 28th, at Mountain Bible from 8 - 3 p.m. Join your
friends for a day of inspiration, fun and encouragement.
Margie Williams is our keynote speaker and there are ten
workshops to choose from. If you have not yet picked up a
brochure, stop by the Women's Ministry Table on Sundays or call
Jeri Chilson at 474-2880 to obtain one.
Speaking of Spring...there'll be a VERY SPECIAL event coming on
April 25th, the2nd Annual Mother-Daughter Tea! It
offers a great opportunity to serve that will bless the lives of
some very young girls...ages Kg-5th grade and their mothers,
aunts, grandmas, etc. We need coordinators, such as
table hostesses, publicity, set up, clean up, decorating,
etc. We also would like any and all volunteers at this
point who are willing to help make this Tea another great success.
Last year there was a fantastic turnout and we expect that
again! Don't delay! Get involved because the planning
happens NOW...call the planning team of Amy Van Zile
472-2359; Sarah Hubbard 468-0396; or Rosie Seig
661-904-1536.
*****
There is another "season change" happening...Karen
Borgman has faithfully served as Coordinator of MBC Women's Bible
Studies for many years and recently felt the Lord calling her to
step away from those duties to concentrate on other ministries
where she is also deeply involved, such as Women For Jesus and
the Magdalena Project. We are so grateful for the blessing
she has been to us. Cindy Diehl, who has worked alongside
Karen, will assume the leadership and be joined by Kathy
Pirch. What a team...we continue to be blessed!
May the God of all hope fill you with all joy and peace as you
trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of
the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Youth Ministry News
Thanks
again for all your prayers for the high school students and their
winter camp. God did some amazing things that weekend with 4
students accepting the Lord for the first time. Please continue
to be praying for the high school group. www.mountainbible.org/highschool
March 6th is are All Church Youth Group Event at Ponderosa
Baptist. 5-7pm, then bowling from 7-10pm.
March 15-21 High School Mission Mexico Trip. Please be praying
for this group of students as they give up a week to serve.
See Mobility Angel Article for one of 5 ministries we will
be working.
There will be no youth groups, both jh and hs, meeting over
spring break as we will be doing some random activities.
There will be no Sunday school on April 5 for either JH and HS.
The staff will be on a retreat, this would be a great opportunity
for students to go in the main service with their parents.

Mobility Angels-San Vacente
Thank
you for your love concern about the needs of the ministry to
the disabled in Mexico. Of course I
remember it has been a year since you all were here
from Arizona. All I can say, "God is sooo
Good!" He knows our needs and provides acording
to His will. He will provide in His time.
I have been involved in more projects than just
modifying wheelchairs. Now I make prosthetic
seating for children that can't hold their body
straight and also prosthetic limbs. It's been a
wonderfull year in 2008 and am looking foward for this
year to keep blessing them and laying hands on
them. I'm excited about what the Lord is going
to do. When you come down in March, I can always use
