Pastor Search

Craig Matthews

The pastor search team is continuing to seek the man God has chosen to be the next lead pastor at Mountain Bible Church.  As often happens, where one door closed just one month ago, another door has opened.  But, keep in mind, this process is more similar to courting a spouse than picking out carpet.  We must constantly be reminded that if the relationship we seek is going to work, we must keep God right in the middle of it and consider the needs of the other above our own.  Thank you so much for your support and prayers.

Jovial Jokes from Jana

Jana's Jovial Jokes Logo

Poor Robert was having trouble getting his neighbor to keep his chickens fenced in.
The neighbor kept telling him the chickens had the right to go where they wanted, but the birds were ruining Robert's prize-winning flowerbeds.
Two weeks later, a friend visited Robert and noticed his flowerbeds were doing great. The flowers were even beginning to bloom! The friend asked, "How did you make your neighbor keep his hens in his own yard?"
Robert replied, "Easy! One night I hid a dozen eggs under a bush by my flower bed. The next day I let my neighbor see me gather them. I haven't been bothered since.".

Dear Joel,

Thank you for supporting the many ministries at Mountain Bible.  Your love and generosity is a blessing.

A Note from Larry

Pastor Larry FinchPastor Larry Finch is beginning a New Sunday Morning Message Series in the Book of James.
The New Testament Book of James is much like the Old Testament Book of Proverbs.  James contains various principles of how to live and is particularly applicable to our own times when there are financial stresses and various troubles and trials, not only personally but in our society as a whole.

Elders Corner by Dean Borgman

Dean BorgmanIn this column a couple of months ago, I mentioned some of the exciting ministries that are happening here at Mountain Bible.  The summer months do not seem to have slowed down any of those ministry activities as our congregation continues to be busy doing God's work here in our community. It takes a lot of busy people to keep the Mountain Bible ministries thriving and properly directed.  I hope all of us take the opportunity to express our appreciation to those who are so faithful in carrying them out.  Take time to say thanks not only to those who lead in ministry, but also to those who are working behind the scenes-----if I start listing all of those people I am sure I would omit someone, and the list would make this column much too long-----so I ask you to keep your eyes open to those who are making things happen, and say thanks.  And, maybe you will find an opportunity to help them out in your own way and become involved in a ministry area that allows you to use the gift(s) God has given you.

Thanks to all of you who were able to attend and participate in the congregational meeting on 12 July.  It was a great evening of fellowship, informational reports, and business.  We also approved the amended by-laws, and they have been distributed by e-mail to all members.  If you want a paper copy, it is available from the church office. Most importantly, we welcomed the following new members  into the Mountain Bible fellowship:

Larry & Debbie Firman

Robert Hoyt
Connie & Jim Teilborg

Tonia Thompson
Dean & Darlene Younker

Please make it a point to find these new members and give them a Mountain Bible welcome!

Student MinistriesSanchez family

First of all, I just want to thank everyone for the comments I got for teaching on July 26, it was a great privilege. The youth worship team loved having the opportunity to lead everyone into worship and we just want to say thank you!!

Please be praying for both the Junior High and High School students as they go back to school. Be praying that they can be strong examples for Christ on their campus. And also that they bring there non Christian friends to church so God can reveal Himself to these students. Mountain Bible students want to get involved and make a difference in this community.

August 21-22 we are having an All Nighter in phoenix. It is for both Junior High and High School students. The cost is $45 and we leave from Mountain Bible at 7:00pm on August 21st and we will return at 8:00am on August 22nd. We will be at Arizona Community Church for Worship and a guest speaker. Then we will head to Gameworks for 2 hours. After that, head to Lifetime Fitness for 2 hours. And finish it up at a ice skating ring or a bowling alley for 2 hours, then head home. If you have any questions about this activity, please call the office.

 A stranger comes to visit:
I had the opportunity to lead Kid's Church last Sunday.  After Worship, I thought it would be fun to know what the kids had learned about Jesus this summer, fresh out of Vacation Bible School!  So, my first question to the class of twenty two 7 to 11 year olds was, "How many of you know who Jesus is?"  As expected, all the hands in class shot up, except one.  The hands went down and a boy that was here for the first time said that he did not know Jesus.  For this boy to have the courage to speak up was amazing.  So, we went around the room and each child told what they knew about Jesus.  The testimonies of these children were the best I have ever heard.  They told how Jesus had protected them, saved them and healed them.  After each child had shared, I confirmed what the kids had said.  At this point, the boy raised his hand and said, "I know who Jesus is now."
All the kids smiled.  Just then, there was a knock at the door, it was the boy's dad.  He said that they had to leave as he had to go to work.  After the boy left, the class and I were amazed at how God had sent someone, for only 10 minutes,  who didn't know the Lord Jesus, and then used us to tell about His love and forgiveness.  God is surely at work here.
