MBC
Quarterly Meeting - 4/25
|
|

|
Finances:
Penny DeGroot gave the financial report for the
first three months ending March 31, 2010. To summarize the
report, the giving was $7,500 over that which was budgeted.
All the expenses were in line with the budget with the exception
of two and those were explained. The staff kept their
expenses $3,400 under budget and the bottom line was we were in
the good almost $11,000.
While going over the Balance Sheet that
explains all of our cash, fixed assets and liabilities, a member
asked about what investment tools were used to put our general
fund money in. The current C.D.'s and terms were explained
along with the encouragement from Penny that anyone with any
suggestions should always feel free to make recommendation and
share their experience regarding investments. It was noted
that all of our funds are in FDIC Insured accounts. A final
note was on the Deacon Fund and Building Funds.
The Deacon Fund is at just over $3,000 and the Building Fund has
been depleted with the building of the Ramada.
Anyone contributions to these accounts would be appreciated.
Staff
Transition:
The elders shared that after months of prayer and
consideration, it was determined that Joe Sanchez was not the
long term fit for giving guidance to our Junior and Senior High
ministry. Joe's strong gifts in relationships and
one-on-one counseling of students was affirmed by the board and
those present at the quarterly meeting. That said, Joe's
lack of strong organzational and leadership gifts prompted the
elders to make this difficult decision.
Some at the meeting questioned the timing of this decision.
It is believed by the board that the end of the school year is a
natural time for this transition because of new students moving
up to the youth ministry and plans being made for the coming fall
ministry calendar. Although the leadership transition will
take place at the end of this school year, the elders are
committed to continue to support Joe and Katie as they seek a
role that is most complementary for Joe's gifts. Towards
this end, Joe will remain on MBC's payroll through at least
June.

Jokes from Jana

In honor of my daughter, graduating from college
next week:
Driving past the grounds of the university, a professor saw a
student running hard. Snarling at his heels were three huge dogs.
Intent on rescue, the professor braked his Volkswagen to a halt
and threw open the door. "Hurry, get in! He commanded."
"Get in!" "Say, you are the greatest," the
bearded youth grasped. "Most people won't offer me a lift
when they see I have three dogs."

GO:
Embracing the 'Unlikely' with the Love of Jesus
During my
personal reading this week, I encountered once again the story of
the Good Samaritan. Most of us could recite the story in
our sleep, but whether we've fully grasped Jesus' central lesson
in it is another question. A conversation with a Jewish lawyer
led up to the famous parable. The lawyer had questioned Jesus
regarding how he, and others, might inherit eternal life.
Jesus response was not only a quote from the Torah (Old Testament
Law - Deuteronomy 6), but his famous answer also became a central
directive of present and future Christianity known as the Great
Commandment. In short, Christians of all time periods and
cultures are called to love God with everything they have ...and
then are called to let this same level of love overflow onto
those around them.
Quite perceptively, the lawyer in the story asked for further clarification:
"Who, then, is my neighbor"? Or, more to his
point: "How do I decide who's worthy of my loving concern
and who isn't?" Jesus answer likely left the Jewish
crowd in a state of shocked disbelief. "Love the
unlovely; the most desperate and distasteful individual in your
cultural circle (in the Jewish lawyer's case, a Samaritan).
Attempt to connect with the battered individual at whatever level
necessary, striving to meet their most glaring needs first - even
if it involves deep personal sacrifice. Hang in there with
them through the thick and thin of the recovery process -
continuing to extend God's love toward them in every way
possible". According to Jesus, a willingness to love
at this level evidences a transformed heart worthy of eternal
life.
Ouch! I would suggest this puts an entirely different slant on
the 'GO' aspect of our MBC vision statement. Without a
doubt - much easier said than done. Jesus' parable
insinuated that His level of love involves intentional 'action'
- extending far deeper into the recesses of man's
brokenness than many claiming Christ are willing to go.
Maybe this not so subtle directive from Jesus will prompt you and
me to evaluate more carefully around our community as to
who, truly, our neighbor is. If we'll look with our
hearts and not just our eyes, we may be quite surprised at who
we'll find. Even though a bit unsettling, join me in
'taking the leap'! Following Jesus wholeheartedly is where
the true action is.

A HUGE THANK YOU to all
who helped to make the Beth Moore Event a great
day last Saturday!
The
Planning Team of Joyce Fait, Susan Everhart, Jan Chapek, Pam
Jones, Connie Teilborg, Carol Drury, Christina Jones, Holly
Hallman, Mae Rose Bergeson and Robin Lyons was terrific!
There were so many other gals who served under the Planning Team
to make the plans work...thanks to each of you! Rob
Myer and team prepared the great meals, Chris Barr assisted with
so many practical details and the deacons, along with a number of
other men, helped with set-up and take-down. A
successful event takes many folks behind the scenes to make it go
smoothly. The Lord was honored and we were blessed by
everyone's service!
We are proud of a group of MBC students who did a great job serving
alongside their Youth Pastor, Chris. Three women were
blessed by the
generosity of our students who collected enough money to purchase
three of Beth Moore's new book to be given to them. What a
thoughtful and generous gift. Thank you students! God
bless you for your hearts of service to others! Click Here to see other Pictures from
Event!
