for your thoughts!

Happy New Year to all - for some of us, this is a very
busy time. Closing out of the old files and start of the
new. The 2010 Giving Statements will be sent out prior to the end
of January, hopefully sooner than later. Just a reminder, if you
want to give to more than one cause (i.e., The General Fund, Youth,
Deacon Fund), just make a note in your check memo - I will be happy to
allocate your giving exactly the way you want. Anyone
wanting to donate stock can do so with our Edward Jones' Stock
account. Here at Mountain Bible our goal is communication as it
relates to the finances and future budget planning. Please try and
attend this year's Annual Meeting which will be January 30th
at 6:00 p.m. The financial statements will be given for all of 2010
and the 2011 Budget will be voted on.
With these hard and trying times,
donations for the youth and Monday night dinner are always
appreciated. We thank you for your generous hearts and gift of
serving. May the Lord bless you and keep you healthy and safe in
2011.

Jovial Jokes from Jana

Getting in shape
A friend of mine had resisted efforts to get him to
run with our jogging group until his doctor told him he had to exercise.
Soon thereafter, he reluctantly joined us for our 5:30 a.m. jogs on
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
After a month of running, we decided that my friend might be hooked,
especially when he said he had discovered what "runner's
euphoria" was. "Runner's euphoria," he explained, "is
what I feel at 5:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays." -- Neil
P. Budge
Starting that diet:
My friend Kimberly announced that she had started a
diet to lose some pounds she had put on recently.
"Good!" I exclaimed. "I'm ready to start a diet too. We
can be dieting buddies and help each other out. When I feel the urge to
drive out and get a burger and fries, I'll call you first."
"Great!" she replied. "I'll ride with you." -- Katina
Fisher
Dieting - New Year Resolutions
2007: I will get my weight down below 180 pounds.
2008: I will follow my new diet religiously until I get below 200 pounds.
2009: I will develop a realistic attitude about my weight.
2010: I will work out 3 days a week.
2011: I will try to drive past a gym at least once a week.

2012?
A film was released last year
entitled 2012. It was film about the coming of the end of
the world...next year. The not so unusual forecast is based on
many things: the concluding cycle of the ancient Mayan Long
Calendar; the mysterious predictions of an ancient French philosopher
named Nostradamus; and so on. It also appears this phenomenon has
global appeal. Many, world-wide, believe that something
catastrophic will happen in 2012 either gravely altering or end human
civilization as we presently know it. Interesting concept.
Luxuriant movie-making lore - at the very least.
It should also be noted, however, that Nostradamus is only one of a
long list of doomsday forecasters who have predicted that our world, as
we know it, will soon be no more. Obviously, all have been wrong
- at least to this point. The doomsayers are right, however, in
their warnings of a coming apocalypse. The Bible, itself, teaches
clearly that this world will one day end, thus strongly encouraging
inhabitants, in the mean time, to prioritize life in the next sphere of
existence rather than the present. As Bible believing Christians,
we also know that the 'end' is likely in the near, rather than distant,
future.
So what does all this have to
do with January, 2011? A great deal, actually. Each New
Year grants a golden opportunity for a fresh start, the reconsidered of
one's priorities, an instituting of Godly changes. Maybe you need
to work on KNOWING God better this year...loving Him more.
January 1, 2011 offers the fresh and exciting opportunity for a 'do
over' in this category. Maybe you need to GROW in
relationships with other believers who can offer you support and love
as you strive to faithfully continue the Christian journey
together. This new calendar year offers yet another such
opportunity ...if you'll take it. Maybe most important, in light
of Christ's imminent return, is that you place more emphasis on
GO. It's true. Most of us won't touch the entire world for
Christ. But can you shed the light of Christ's gospel more
intensely in Payson...in the office where you work...in your own
neighborhood? The apostle Paul reminded us through his first
letter to the Corinthians that God is not as concerned about our
spiritual success as Christians as he is our faithfulness (1 Cor. 4:2).
Are you satisfied with your level of faithfulness to Christ's cause in
2010? Can you grow and improve, for the glory of God? Will you?
What if Nostradamus was right? What if the
world does end in 2012? Maybe we should plan in 2011 like it
will. Maybe we should live as if we will see Jesus face to face
next year! Maybe we should be more intentional than ever about
carrying out our MBC mission and vision with a greater fervor than ever
before. Maybe, just maybe, Jesus will return tomorrow morning.
Let's be ready - just in case He does.

Women's Ministry
Women's Bible Studies begin Thursday, January 6th, with a kick-off at 8:30 a.m.
in Building C. There is still time to sign up for the study of
your choice and join in to go deeper in your walk with the Lord.
There are two evening studies available, as well. Sign up at the
Women's Ministry Table Sunday morning between services and after 2nd
service. This is a great time of fellowship and building
relationships as we share, explore and rejoice together.
Coming up on January 29th: Women's
Ministry will present "Enlisted" with Michelle Rauscher and
Kris Sawyers from Cornerstone Church in Chandler. This is the
model for our own "Lifestyle Coaching" Program. We have
the privilege of learning from the best! Michelle & her team
of women's ministry leaders were named one of "The Ten Most
Innovative Women's Ministries" in the nation by Leadership Network
in 2009. In this one session, you will be given the tools and
resources you'll need to intentionally pour the truth of Christ into
the lives of the people around you.
Admission is free but
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BY January 15th. Sign-up at
the Women's Ministry Table on Sunday, or email Jeri Chilson at wmmentorprogram@mountainbible.org or call her at

Student
Ministries
Happy New Year!
Well, it seems that 2010 went
by too fast. I am pretty sure that I am not alone in that thought. It's
not that I ended the year with more things left over to do; I just
can't recall where all of the time went. Back in the day, (that's a
saying for people who don't want to say " when I was younger"
) I used to think how great it would be to be able to " buy "
time. You know, when you get to take a lunch break and go through the
drive-thru. It would go something like this..." Um,yes.... I would
like 2 double cheeseburgers and a large fry and an extra large
chocolate shake please"... then that mumbled voice would come back
through the speaker and ask you " anything else?.....and
then you could say... " oh, umm, yes ..and an extra hour and a
half for today please. And SUPERSIZE that"!
Wouldn't that just make life so
much better? (the extra time, not the selection of food ). You could
buy time when you needed it just like buying lunch. I spent years
thinking how great that would be. Imagine how much work could get done
if we had more time. Then one day it hit me. Wait a minute,
.... since God created the entire world, He also created time,
and if God created time and He is perfect, He must have created time
perfect. This was a tough thought because if God created the perfect
amount of time in a day, then I must be doing something wrong if I
think I need more.
A lot of spiritual growth came
from that realization. I have learned a lot from Jesus' words in the
Sermon on the Mount in the book of Matthew. When He tells us to
"not worry" and He talks about provision and letting tomorrow
worry about itself, it gives me great comfort. If I combine the two
thoughts, that He created enough time and that I don't need to worry
about my provision and what tomorrow will bring, I can rest in His accomplishments
and not mine. I have learned it is great to prioritize, plan well, and
work hard. In fact, I believe that these actions are pleasing to God.
But at the end of the day it is in Him that I have to put my
trust....... every day!
So, the year flew by? That's ok. Do the best you can with
the time you have and let Him work out the results. Take some time and
read Matthew chapter 6 and be encouraged. He definitely knows and wants
what's best for us, and we need to trust Him in that. And remember,
when "our time" runs out... eternity begins! That should
bring a smile to your face. J
