from Penny

Penny DeGroot always wanting to serve you!

Your support of our missionaries and specific mission trips have been a blessing to spread God's Word around the globe.  We are continually researching the proper and legal way to support those missionaries.  Publication 526 from the IRS states that an individual can contribute to MBC and we in turn help a worthy individual; however, the congregation cannot designate a specific individual.  Once this is done, the contribution becomes a "non deductible" contribution. Please list the organization that the missionary is supported through (i.e., Avant for the Haddad's, or Frontiers for the Nutter's or Biblical Missions for the Cox, Mexico Mission, Ukraine Mission, etc.).  Remember, we list the organizations on the back of the bulletin each week.  Two of our missionaries are not currently with an organization.  Alfonso Rodriguez and Tom Navarro.  If your check is labeled for those individuals, we can forward the funds on; however, it is not a tax deductible donation.  Until they are under the umbrella of a Mission Group, they are considered individuals in the eyes of the IRS.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call Penny.

Jovial Jokes from Jana

Jana's Jovial Jokes Logo

A man was telling his neighbor, "I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me four thousand dollars, but it's state of the art. It's perfect!"

"Really?" answered the neighbor. "What kind is it?"

"Twelve thirty..."

Thought for the day:
If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

Spread A Little 'Love' Around

Mary Martin was a renowned Broadway musical star in years gone by.  The story is told of her preparing for an on stage appearance in the famous musical South Pacific.  Just before the curtain rose, she was handed a note from a courier.  The note was from renowned writer and theatrical producer Oscar Hammerstein who was, at the time, on his deathbed.  The short note simply, yet profoundly, stated the following:  "Dear Mary, a bell's not a bell 'til you ring it.  A song's not a song 'til you sing it.  Love in your heart is not put there to stay.  Love isn't love...'til you give it away".

Although February is considered the 'month of love', there is truly no such month for the Christian.  Because of Christ's unfathomable love shown for us on the cross, every day is a fresh reminder of what love, ultimately, means.  But, much like in Hammerstein's words to his protégé, love is a 'verb'.  Just because one possesses the love of Christ and the desire to share that love with others...it isn't shared automatically.  We must make time, following the guidance of God's spirit, to spread love into the lives of others who are, quite often, desperately in need of Christ's touch.  Using the *acronym L-O-V-E, let's consider four simple ways we can more effectively distribute God's love in 2011 throughout Mountain Bible Church and our Payson community in general:

L - listen when others are speaking

O - overlook petty faults and forgive failures

V -   value other people for who they are

E -   express love in practical ways

*L-O-V-E acronym from a book entitled Seeds of Greatness by Dennis Waitley

Women's Ministry

Enlisted for MentoringOn January 29th  over 100 women attended the "Enlisted" presentation with Michelle Rauscher and Kris Sawyers from Cornerstone Church in Chandler.  This model for our "Lifestyle Coaching" Program gives us tools and resources opening many avenues for us to live as encouragers to those women who God sends into our lives and across our paths.  If you were not able to attend, or if you attended and have some questions, please call Jeri Chilson at 928-474-2880 or Sue Bishop at 978-1630 to get some answers!
Mark your calendar for the following Women's Ministry events coming up over the next several month:   March 10th, 6-8 p.m. is our next "Girl Time Gathering".  "Reaping What We Sow" will feature our own GT Interest Group...the "Girl
Time Gardeners".  It promises to be an evening of fun, laughter and friendship you won't want to miss.
Also coming up, our Spring Women's Conference, "Going Beyond: Life Interrupted" Simulcast, on April 1st  & 2nd (Friday evening and Saturday morning), with speaker Priscilla Shirer, and music by Anthony Evans.  Priscilla is the daughter of well-known preacher, Tony Evans.  More details will be forthcoming.
We will also host another Beth Moore simulcast on September 10th...so save the date!
For each of these activities, check the Women's Ministry table on Sunday mornings or email me at womensministry@mountainbible.org for more information.

Student Ministry

Leadership RetreatI read the following quote recently and I thought it might encourage you........

"If I had the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of John, the meekness of Moses, the strength of Samson, the obedience of Abraham, the compassion of Joseph, the tears of Jeremiah, the poetic skill of David, the prophetic voice of Elijah, the courage of Daniel, the greatness of John the Baptist, the endurance and love of Paul, I would still need redemption through Christ's blood, the forgiveness of sin. "        -- R. L. Wheeler

(Kind of puts it all in perspective doesn't it?)
