Pulpit Search
|
|

|
As many of you know, our most recent top prospect has
chosen, by God's leading, to follow another path. While there
is a certain disappointment whenever a relationship that has been
cultivated comes to an end, the search team has chosen to proceed
with joy and confidence rather than frustration or anxiety knowing
and trusting God's perfect plan and timing. "Our
worship is in the waiting..." was part of a prayer offered
by one of our team at last Thursday's meeting that
truly captured the collective heart of our group. The pulpit
search team appreciates your prayers and support over the last
several months. Thank you for joining us in "worshiping in
the waiting".

Spotted in the toilet of a London office: "Toilet
out of order. Please use floor below."
In a London department store: "Bargain Basement upstairs."
In an office: "After tea break, staff should empty the teapot
and stand upside down on the draining board."
Notice in a farmer's field: "The farmer allows walkers to cross
the field for free, but the bull charges."
On a repair shop door: "We can repair anything. Please knock on
the door - the bell doesn't work."

Men's breakfast
begins Friday September 25th at 6:15 in building C. This
year our study will be A Man's Guide to the Spiritual Disciplines by
Patrick Morley. Each month we will be focusing on a habit that
will strengthen your walk with Christ. What can be
better? You will have a fantastic breakfast , connect with
other men, and learn from the Word of God. See you there
!! Pastor Kraig
There are several small groups of men that meet during the
week. If you would like to be part of one sign- up at the table
on the patio, look at the link on line at Mountain Bible.org, or
check out the Connection brochure . The sign- ups will be on
the patio September 6th, and 13th, or you can call Pastor Kraig at
472-7800.
If you want a
rewarding ministry in the community that takes one hour a week, than
consider tutoring. What is tutoring? It is working with a
student each week to help them learn to improve their reading. Some
students are more than a year behind. You read books with
a students and ask questions on what they have read. Finger
printing is required by the district office for this ministry.
See pastor Kraig, or sign-up on September 13th or the 20th at the
table on the patio.

Sunday Morning Adult Bible Studies

Elder's Corner
The Elders had an
opportunity to spend some quality time together last week during a
mini-retreat. It was a wonderful time of fellowship, prayer and
planning. We used some of this time to review Mountain Bible's
Mission, Vision and Values, that were developed during our planning
weekend in May 2008. As part of that review, we considered the
consistency of our ministries with them. Through Pastor Larry's
leadership, he and the staff have done a lot of good work on this topic
and I was again reminded of how thankful I am for all of them. During
our prayer time, we thanked the Lord for how he has used and blessed
MBC, and asked for his continued protection for our congregation and
our many ministries. We focused a good portion of our time on
the efforts of the search team to identify "Pastor Next",
and also reflected on the dedication and faithfulness of each member
of that team. They have been on this task for a year and half,
and will continue to pursue God's direction in their work. Some
of you may not realize how much work this team has put into their
task, but be assured that they have accomplished much during the past
year and a half. We all look forward to the day when we can
look back on this effort and clearly see how God has worked---and it
will all work out in God's perfect timing. As we look ahead to
2010, your Elder board will have two vacancies to fill. We
solicit your prayerful consideration of nominees for these
positions. You will see more on this in the bulletin later this
year, but now is the time to be thinking and praying about those
godly leaders among us who could serve.

Student Ministries
We all survived MBC 2nd Annual All
Youth All Nighter in Phoenix. We took 93 total people. We had a
number of students come that have never done anything with us before
so us adults got to build relationships with them. We had a student
invite two mormon friends, and those students had a blast. Please be
praying that as a youth group, we could minister to these new
students. Thank you to all the adults that volunteered there time to
go.....and for being ok with their lack of sleep ;)
Also be praying as a youth group we want to support our school's
athletics so we can be on campus as much as possible. We want people
to know that we are there and that we are getting invovled. We are
challenging the students to step it up, make a difference on there
campus and to show people they are followers of Christ without having
to tell them. God is doing amazing things in this youth group and my
staff and I are excited to be part of it.
See you at
the pole is Wednesday September 23rd, an opportunity for the
students and adults to pray and worship on campus. Pray that the
students can be examples for Christ and not hold anything back.

Gotta Lova A Lunada
"How about a
Lunada?" This was Poncho's suggestion as we racked our
brains to think of a fun end-of-summer event to have at our house for
La Roca the Spanish-speaking congregation of Mountain Bible.
"What's a Lunada?" That was my question, which I continued
to ask for the several weeks leading up to the event, never receiving
a clear answer. I finally decided it was something I was just
going to have to experience, like all of that which is connected to
Latino culture.
So the big night finally arrived and I found out that it is
something most of them are two hours late coming to. Thus, the luna
part of the name. I should have known! Luna means moon and the moon
has to be up before they can arrive! So why did we schedule it at
6:00? Even the key people who are bringing the food are late!
So for two hours people who had come on time, consisting of gringos
and half-gringo couples like Poncho and Lillie and Alex and Liz, and
Don and I ate sliced tomatoes, pistachios, chips and salsa and water
since that's what I had and I wasn't ready to cut the cake I had
baked. Oh, and about 7:00 one of the Mexican guys brought one round
table and 20 chairs and left to go home and take a shower and get his
family.
Then way after dark they arrived with raw hamburger, buns, lettuce
and a GIANT pot of not- cooked-yet corn on the cob - helote! And more
cakes! Shades of Mexico. That's how it was down there; just
when I'm ready to brush my teeth and put on my jammies everyone
swings into frenetic activity. So we ate after my bedtime, sat in a
big circle around the fire pit and told the story of how we met the
love of our lives. Don and I just pointed to the Ox Bow Saloon which
you could see directly south of our circle gathering. At which
Evaristo said "Smart man! The bosses daughter!" We prayed
and sang praise songs. Don brought out the big Mexican bass
guitar, Juan played guitar and Alex was on the bongos. The rest
of us played all the noise making instruments that live on top of our
piano such as jingle bells, tambourine, egg shakers and sticks.
We cuddled the babies, laughed, ate cake and had great conversations
with the kids. Actually, Don and I ate our hamburgers in the gazebo
surrounded by the kids and Alex and realized we were the English
speaking contingency. The Mexicans mostly sat in the 20 chairs at the
one round table enjoying their burgers with pickled jalapenos, and a
can of them was left on my counter. It's up for grabs.
So here's my suggestion: have your own Lunada! Forget every rule you ever had about kid's bedtimes,
preparedness, rules, schedules, American culture! Invite
everyone you love to join you for a night of fun and see if somewhere
in the midst of the craziness a curious feeling of joy and
peacefulness doesn't steal over you. Every good and perfect
gift comes from above. I think Jesus would have loved the
Lunada. In fact, I'm quite sure He did!
May your day be filled with Jesus joy!
