Search Team Update from Craig
Matthews
|
|

|
October brings spring break for the Payson schools and
with many of our team taking short trips with their families, the
pastor search team took a short break in October. The team is
back to work now and again has some very good prospects. As
always the search team covets your prayers. Only the wisdom,
guidance and discernment that is granted by our creator will allow us
to successfully accomplish his will.

If April showers bring May flowers what do May flowers
bring?
Pilgrims!
Why did the turkey cross the road?
It was the chicken's day off.
Why did the police arrest the turkey?
They suspected it of fowl play.
Why did the Indian chief wear so many feathers?
To keep his wigwam.
Why did they let the turkey join the band?
Because he had the drumsticks
If the Pilgrims were alive today, what would they be most famous for?
Their AGE.
A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store,
but couldn't find one big enough for her family. She asked the
stock boy, "Do these turkeys get any bigger?" The
stock boy answered, "No ma'am, they're dead."

Continuing Message Series in James
James, in his letter, continues to speak to his first
century recipients - BUT ALSO continues to speak to us. As we
come into the latter part of James 4 and beginning of James 5, there
are extremely practical words to us.
Nov. 1 -"So Who Appointed You to be
Judge? 4:11-12
Nov. 8 - "How To Both Plan Well and Trust God
for the
Future"
4:13-17
Nov. 15 - "Be Wise with Your Wealth"
5:1-6
Nov. 22 - "Being Patient in an Impatient
World" 5:7-12

ELDER DEVOTIONAL
Recently, I was
reading in Acts where Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown into
prison and despite these circumstances, they were found praying and
singing hymns in the middle of the night. We all find ourselves
in adverse circumstances and the way in which we respond to these
circumstances can witness to those around us. In the story of
the imprisonment of Paul and Silas, their response ultimately led to
the jailer and his family becoming saved. I am reminded of the
verses in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 where Paul states, "Be joyful
always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this
is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." This is God's will
for us, and my prayer for our congregation is that we will all know
this peace, regardless of the circumstances in which we find
ourselves.

Family & Children Ministries
In Sunday School
last Sunday, we just finished a positive thing to do for Halloween:
A "Pumpkin Prayer" activity.
Dear God,
As I carve my pumpkin,
help me say this prayer:
Open my mind so I can
learn about You; (Cut the top of the pumpkin)
Take away all my sin and
forgive me for the wrong things I do; (Clean out the inside)
Open my eyes so Your Love
I will see; (Cut eyes shaped like hearts)
I'm sorry for turning up
my nose to all You've given me; (Cut a nose in the shape of the
cross)
Open my ears so Your Word
I will hear; (Cut ears shaped like the Bible)
Open my mouth so I can
tell others You're near; (Cut mouth in the shape of a fish)
Let Your Light Shine in
all I say and do! Amen (Place a candle and light)
You may notice "Adventure Land" in the Children's wing is
undergoing a face lift. We are working on reinforcing our
mission statement to the kid's:
Our focus in Preschool is
Jesus Loves You
K thru 1st is Jesus
Protects and Provides for you
2nd & 3rd is Jesus
Saves and Forgives You
4th & 5th is Serving
Jesus
We are using wild animals to help illustrate this and it goes along
with the Adventure Land theme. Our goal is that each child that
attends our Sunday School will go away with these truths.
Sunday School Teacher of the Month
Felicia Moore is a blessing to Mountain Bible Children's
Ministry. She is involved in just about everything we do, from
the Christmas Musical to Clothes drives. Felicia leads Kids
Church for our Sunday 2nd service, and takes her job very seriously.
She is a model of someone serving Jesus. If you see Felicia
around campus, please thank her for her service.
