Relay for Life (American Cancer Society) - June 5th
and 6th

What a worthwhile event. This is truly an
"EVENT". The Relay event starts June 5th at 6:00 p.m.
at the High School football field and goes until 6:00 a.m. the next
morning. We will have a booth set up to sell food and hopefully
win the prize for the best decorated booth there! Please signup to
participate in the walking (running, skipping - you choose). We
must have someone on the field each hour. Sign up the entire
family at the Women's Ministry Table or call Penny at the church
office at 472-7800.
We would also like some help with the event (food, decorating,
etc). Please let Penny know if you can help prior to or at the
event. Look for the fund raiser we hope to have prior to the
Relay. Lets all get excited about this worthwhile event.
We all know someone that has gone through having cancer or maybe you
yourself are a survivor.

Jovial Jokes from Jana

|
Grandparents:
She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful
eyes of her young granddaughter, as she'd done many times
before. After she applied her lipstick and started to leave,
the little one said, "But Gramma, you forgot to kiss the toilet
paper good-bye!"
A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own
childhood was like: "We used to skate outside on the
pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in
our front yard. We rode our pony every day. We picked
wild raspberries in the woods." The little girl was
wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, "I sure
wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"

NEW SUNDAY MORNING SERIES
Beginning May 17
"In Times Like These"
Financial crises, uncertainty about the future, a culture drifting
away from God and His truth, the government and business in turmoil,
increasing violence and lawlessness; You might think these
conditions describe our current time in history - which they do, but
they are also the time of the Old Testament Book of Judges.
Therefore, by studying the book of Judges, we will be able to have
help in our own direction to not only survive but thrive in our
current times.

the Worst of Times" Judges 1-2

Women's Ministry
We are excited about this year's Women's Summer Bible Study
which will be held each Thursday evening in June.
The theme is "Hope" and we will be viewing the film,
Magdalena, Released from Shame on June 4th. The next three weeks we
will hear from a special speaker who will teach about one of the
women whose life was touched by Jesus.
Magdalena is a film adapted from the original Jesus film produced by
Campus Crusade for Christ. It is an eyewitness account of Jesus' life
as told by Mary Magdalene. This unique film was produced to bring the
message of salvation, hope and dignity to women around the world who
are oppressed, forgotten, used, shamed or violated. It was premiered
at the United Nations in March 2007 to diplomats representing several
countries and since then has been shown in many parts of the world
including the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia.
Our format is similar to previous years, however we will start at
6:30 so everyone can have dinner before arriving. Dessert will be
served as we gather around the tables to discuss the evening's
lesson.
Invite your friends and neighbors and be prepared to be greatly
blessed as we sit together under the teaching of Alana Wallace, Jan
Chapek and Kelly Morse.
The dates: June 4, 11, 18 and 25
The place: Mountain Bible Church
The time: 6:30 till 8pm
No nursery available
HELP US
BLESS THE WOMEN OF THE UKRAINE!
Here's a great opportunity for you to be involved in
the lives of women in the Ukraine who will attend the missions camp
in June. Last year many wonderful small gifts were sent with
the Kortman team and were greatly appreciated by the women of
Ukraine. This year the team will again be ministering in a camp
for women.
Here is how you can help! You can provide small gifts to
be given out daily to the women at the camp. Some will be
placed into colorful cloth bags and others will be given out during
the course of the camp. All are sure to brighten the lives of
these women who have so little. Stop at the Women's Ministry
table to pick up a list of items needed for this project and to see a
sample of the simple items you could provide. Items
should be returned to the table by May 17.
"G.A.L.S."
Group For Single Women
A NEW group has
formed for the single woman...widowed, divorced or otherwise
single. "G.A.L.S." stands for "God's Amazing
Love Sustains". The focus of this group is friendship and
wholesome social activity, along with some "girl time" fun
and laughter. The next gathering of the group will be in May
and then on June 5th at 6 p.m. Call Arlene Potter for the
May date and location, and to RSVP at 474-4938 or 951-3778
(cell).
HOSPITALITY
COORDINATOR:
Women's Ministry has an opening for a woman to
coordinate the hospitality portion of Women's Ministry events only.
The position involves menu and quantity planning, shopping,
overseeing a team of helpers and coordinating with Special Events
leaders.
Nancy Barela has done a fantastic job for many years with hospitality
for all church functions plus the women's ministry events. The
combined position is now so large that we are dividing it and Nancy
will continue to cover the church functions but step down from the WM
portion. She will be a great source of knowledge for whoever steps
into this position.
PUBLICITY/PUBLIC
RELATIONS COORDINATOR: We also want to share our ministry
information and our awesome events with all women, so we need to get
the word out! We are looking for someone to coordinate &
oversee the dissemination of our publicity and information.
The positions are "volunteer" but the rewards will be
"out of this world"!
For more information, contact Marilyn Pate, Women's Ministry
Director, at 472-4424 or email: marilynwomensministry@mountainbible.org

Ocho de Mayo???
Cinco de Mayo Fiesta - Friday, May 8th, from 5-7 pm in
Building C. La Roca will be serving traditional Mexican Food
for the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. You are all invited!
Donations accepted to benefit the La Roca Family Retreat.
There's a
great movie out right now on video, "Faith Like Potatoes",
a true story based on the life of a Scottish South African
farmer who grew potatoes when it was a proven impossibility
that they would not grow in the drought conditions that existed
at that time. He said faith is like potatoes, you can
feel it, smell it, it's real. He also said the condition
for a miracle is difficulty. The condition for a great miracle
is impossibility.
Despite all the bad news coming out of Mexico, we have "faith
like potatoes" to journey at least 4500 miles through possibly
12 states of Mexico from May 25th through June 13th, reaching
out to 18 families who have either gone to La Roca in the past or
they are family members of the Spanish-speaking congregation of
Mountain Bible who cannot themselves go, and the pastor and his
wife, Poncho and Lillie Rodriguez and their two children are willing
to go and touch them in Jesus name. After sharing with the
mission committee Poncho's plans, we received a phone call that Don
and I were being supported to go along on this amazing missionary
journey as well! Will wonders never cease?
Please pray that our ears will hear the Lord's direction for our
route, as we will be travelling through major drug producing states
and there is a possibility of going to Mexico City to
visit Isrobel Iribe, a young man with leukemia in the
hospital who has had a bone marrow transplant. Don and I met
his wife on our first missionary trip to Mexico 28 years ago. Think
of it. I was 29 and she was a one year old. I saw her
across the room one night at the Christian Clinic and knew
immediately she was the same Myrna Zulema from Badiraguato. She
is with her husband in Mexico City and their two children are in
Badiraguato, which is one of our stops, with family
members. But it's a long way to Mexico City in a car with
little children. (Anyone have a portable video player we can
borrow?) This will add significantly to the 4500 miles as well.
We are extremely grateful to the Lord that the mission committee
caught the vision for this journey and have agreed to finance the
trip. We need your prayers for boldness, wisdom and
discernment, safety, good health, abounding joy and that
the Lord will fulfill all the purpose for which He has called us to
go to Mexico.
Psalm 5:11-12 sings to me, "Let all those rejoice who put
their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because you
defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in
You. For you, O Lord, will bless them, with favor You will
surround them as with a shield."
In His name and for His glory!

Message from our Search Team
The pulpit search
team has been very active over the last month. We have been
blessed with some good new prospective candidates. It
is amazing to see how faithful God has been in blessing Mountain
Bible, especially through some of our new ministries. What
a great reminder that if we are faithful and diligent in
performing the task to which we have been called, God will
certainly be faithful and bless us in
his time.
Craig Matthews
Message from our Elders
Good day to you
all. Dick Mumma is your correspondent this month, and I welcome the
opportunity to communicate some of the elder's thoughts to you all.
For those who don't know us, Karen and I came to visit Mountain Bible
in 1999, then we joined permanently in 2000. We moved up from the
valley (Glendale), where I had been working since retiring from the
Air Force. We both have been involved in teaching and in home groups.
One of our main topics this morning at our Elder meeting was the
search for a new Senior Pastor. The Search Team has been working very
diligently to locate the man God has for us. The problem is, everyone
wants to know when that will happen. Their answer, and ours, is that
it is in the Lord's hands, and in His time. Our recommendation is
that the entire congregation earnestly pray that God will reveal that
man. He does answer prayer, and the more people who are praying the
sooner He will act on that prayer.
In God's providence we have an excellent Interim Pastor, so there is
no sense of urgency on the part of the Elders or the Search Team. We
want it that way - a measured approach, bathed in prayer, which will
provide the right Pastor in the right time.
As Scott said last month, a large portion of each Elder meeting is
praying for the staff and the congregation. We take each prayer
request card that you fill-out on Sunday and pray individually for
the Lord to answer that request. If you fill out the prayer card, you
will get the prayer. If you don't fill out the card, we cannot bring
your need before the Lord. So please fill out a card if you have any
request. They can be anonymous if you desire - the Lord knows who you
are, and that's all that matters.
Our devotion this morning was Job 23:1-10. Job desires to present his
case to God, but God seems to evade him. During this time of economic
distress, we sometimes feel the same way - that God is not around.
However, He is always sovereign, and we must keep that in mind. Job
finishes his complaint by saying, "But He knows the way I take;
When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold." We need to
always remember that when the trials are over we shall come forth as
gold. Gold is purified by heating it and skimming off the impurities.
We are now feeling the heat, but when it is past we will be purer in
God's eyes.
Keep those prayer requests coming.
In His love,
Dick
