Ukraine Mission Trip
|
|

|
Seventeen years ago we thought inviting others to
participate with us on short term trips to the former Soviet Union
would be helpful. It would be healthy to raise the awareness of
missions in the church, to help people to discover that involvement
in missions may be more about availability then calling and of course
to present the wonderful plan of salvation to all that God would
bring our way. These core values have not changed but over the years
the ministry has evolved to include so much more.
On this trip we participated in four camps for children
that touched the lives of around 400 children. It is also touched the
lives on the people who live in the villages where the camps were
held, not just because of the children, but because we were involved
in service projects that served and helped others as people watched.
Some watched openly and some were more discreet but many watched.
Other activities included church services, youth services, home
visits, and rehabilitation center visits. On other occasions it was
just to be a listening ear or a hug or a shoulder where there could
be tears and a word of encouragement.
We were also able to bring gifts of medical
supplies to doctors and small hospitals in villages where the medical
people feel completely ignored by their government and the business
community. It's hard to believe that a few boxes of band aids, gauze
squares and a box of medical gloves could be so appreciated.

The "widows camp" name has changed to
"women's camp" and continues to be an important area of ministry.
The culture there still seems to need a male voice to be heard for
the evening service but the rest of the camp is by women and for
women and serves a vital need for these ladies. Thanks to the many of
you who gave to this area of ministry. Lives are being touched and
changed through this women's camp.
The other impact also includes the lives of those who do
go on these trips. We watched as God put together a wonderful group
of musically gifted youth who were appreciated by many. Certainly
everyone who went was stretched in their spiritual growth and
challenged in the call of God on their life.
As we continue to go and observe and evaluate we see a
change in focus that may also change our approach to this ministry
but the need is still so great and continues to grow with new
opportunities still needed attention.
Thanks to all of you who contributed, to those who
prayed, to those who gave supplies and those who encouraged our
going.

In honor of my daughter, Erin ... a future engineer!
Once upon a time there lived three men: a doctor, a chemist, and an
engineer. For some reason all three offended the king and were
sentenced to die on the same day.
The day of the execution arrived, and the doctor was led up to
the guillotine. As he strapped the doctor to the guillotine, the executioner
asked, 'Head up or head down?'. 'Head up,' said the doctor.
'Blindfold or no blindfold?' 'No blindfold.' So the executioner
raised the axe, and z-z-z-z-ing! Down came the blade and stopped
barely an inch above the doctor's neck.
Well, the law stated that if an execution didn't succeed the
first time the prisoner had to be released, so the doctor was set
free.
Then the chemist was led up to the guillotine. 'Head up or
head down?' said the executioner. 'Head up.' 'Blindfold or no blindfold?'
'No blindfold.' So the executioner raised his axe, and z-z-z-z-ing!
Down came the blade and stopped an inch above the chemist's neck.
Well, the law stated that if the execution didn't succeed the
first time the prisoner had to be released, so the chemist was set
free.
Finally the engineer was led up to the guillotine. 'Head up or
head down?' 'Head up.' 'Blindfold or no blindfold?' 'No blindfold.'
So the executioner raised his axe, but before he could cut the rope,
the engineer yelled out: 'WAIT! I see what the problem is!'

What Makes You Cry?
About ten years ago
I read in a book this phrase: "What makes a person cry says a
lot about that person." I began to meditate on what the author
meant by this statement. A short time after reading this book I was
in a youth camp in the summer of 1999 and God made me cry. I cried
without stopping for almost an entire day. This uncontrollable crying
came back every time I read my Bible and I continued like this for a
whole week. Because this seemed to strange I decided to talk to my
pastor. He told me that if I cried when I read the Bible maybe God
was calling me to teach the Bible to others. It was then that I
understood that what makes us cry is often God calling us.
In my last missionary trip to Mexico, I saw many people cry. These people cried because God was calling them and He
greatly affected their lives. The best examples of this would be Meli
and Toni. These two women who do not know each other, and they come
from very different circumstances. Meli is a 16 year old who lives in
a very dysfunctional family and Toni is a single mother who works
very hard to support her and her 16 year old daughter. The only
thing that they have in common is that now they both have Jesus
Christ in their lives. Both of them listened intently to the presentation
of the gospel with tears running down their faces. They tried to
control the emotion that the gospel produced in them but they could
not. After Meli prayed to receive Christ she told us that she
hardly ever sees her dad because he works 14 or 15 hours every day.
She also asked us to pray for her family which is going through a
crisis right now. Toni, who was the last person on the trip to
receive Christ, said the most beautiful words that I have ever heard
someone say after giving his or her life to Christ. She said
"Llegaron cuando mas los necesitaba" which literally
means: " You got here when I needed you most." It can also
be translated: "You got here at just the right moment."
Isn't that the way God works? He always comes at just the right
moment. Galatians 4:4 says: But when the fullness of the time
came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law.
In trying to write about this trip I feel the same as the apostle
John felt when he was writing about the life of Christ (John. 21:25).
If I wrote every detail it would be too much for the world to
contain. But I wanted to share the story of these two ladies
and how they cried when they heard the gospel. God called to
them and they answered by giving their lives over to
Him. So what makes you cry? What is God calling you
to do?
Please pray for each of the 29 people who received Christ on
this mission trip.

Women's Ministry
Summer is a great
time for memory-making...kids out of school, summer camp, family
vacations, weddings, family reunions, etc. We, at Women's
Ministry, sincerely hope your summer is blessed with many memorable
moments and special opportunities with loved ones. Our
next Women's Ministry event will occur in August. Check the
next newsletter for details.
With July being the
month we celebrate our freedoms as a country, please
remember the young men and women who are defending those
freedoms, along with their families who await their safe
return. We are blessed daily because they serve and
sacrifice. Pray that God will keep them safe.

Youth Ministries

Thank you so much
to everyone for your prayers and support for High School Summer Camp.
God did some amazing things and changed some students lives. If you
missed the camp report Sunday morning, we had 5 students accept the
Lord for the first time. We had 3 mormon students come to camp that
some students invited. One of them accepted the Lord for the first
time and the other two are asking the right questions. Please be
praying for these two students, that God will reveal Himself to them.
We ended up baptizing 8 students in the beach and still have some
students that want to get baptized here at Mountain Bible. I would
like to thank my staff who gave up there week to build relationships
with these students. The staff that went to camp: Joel Wilson, Becky
Jansen, Becky Gibson, Chris Barr, Tim Wright, Samantha Wright, Trevor
Creighton, and Shelli Creighton. This group of adults make my job
alot easier and I appreciate your willingness to minister to these
students, you guys are the best!!!!! See Pictures from this week at
camp by clicking here
Please continue to be praying for the Student Ministries as both High
School and Junior High groups are growing. God is doing some amazing
things in these students lives and I am so thankful that He can use
me and I can be a part of it.
Activities in July: July 15th both JH and HS will be going to
Sunsplash. July 21st both JH and HS will be going to Fossil Creek.

A Message from the Search Committee
Talking with a good
friend recently, the subject of 'defining a church' came up, and my
friend spoke of the virtues of simplicity, and how a church should be
able to know what they are 'about' in simple terms. As I
thought about Mountain Bible, and what we're about, many thoughts
came to mind. While we certainly have been through some
difficult and confusing times over the past 5 years or so, it was not
hard for me to define who we are...
We are about
serving children and youth, through gifted and
passionate leaders. What a joy to hear how God worked in the
hearts of our high school kids this past week. While life
changing decisions were made at camp, the relationships and trust
built through weekly teaching, worship, and activities paved the way
for new lives in Christ.
We are about
serving those in need, through Monday night dinners,
to supporting the Payson Christian Clinic, to countless encounters
for widows and children that go unseen and unrewarded here on Earth,
but, "...your Father who sees what is done in secret, will
reward you" Matt. 6:4.
We are about
serving young families in many ways, especially under
the leadership of those serving on Monday nights, and coming along
side so many couples and families.
We are about
serving the world through supporting missions, both
long and short term, in a mighty way. What an honor to pray
for, and support financially our brothers and sisters answering God's
call, from our own church, to those living in foreign lands.
We are about
serving the community of Payson by providing a
sanctuary on Sunday mornings where believers and unbelievers can hear
the Good News, and how to apply it in our daily lives. A place
to worship and give thanks, and to feel like part of a family whose
desire it is to serve the Lord.
I think you may get my simple definition of Mountain Bible
Church. What are we all about? We are a church that was,
is, and will always be committed to serving. May God bless you
as you 'seek first His kingdom' in all you do.

Our High School Camp speaker related a story about a
friend of his child's first steps: His friend was
jazzed because his son walked only a couple of steps before falling
down. As a proud papa he was thrilled when his little boy
would respond to him and attempt to do something he had never done
before, standing by the couch he would turn and take a few steps
towards his father before tipping over and falling on his face.
He made it sound as if that was the greatest accomplishment on
earth. The speaker didn't understand this excitement until he
had a child of his own and experienced this marvel for himself.
Then he realized that God is jazzed when you confess a sin,
turn and take a step toward your heavenly Father in obedience.
God isn't concerned about you falling down; He's jazzed because you
took a couple of steps toward Him. Get up, don't let shame keep
you from walking to your Heavenly Father.
In Him and Because of His Love,

Joel Wilson
